Tripartite Monitoring and Verification Mechanism verifies 12 November incidents

Bogota - The tripartite Monitoring and Verification Mechanism of the Bilateral Ceasefire and Cessation of Hostilities has verified incidents that took place on 12 November in the municipality of Francisco Pizarro, department of Nariño, western Colombia.

According to FARC-EP explanations, they held a meeting in the same department, in the area of ​​San Pedro del Vino, in order to clarify the responsibility of an illegally armed group for some acts of hostility against local communities. Two people from this group were injured and two were killed.

The FARC-EP assumed responsibility for this incident.

The Mechanism—composed of representatives of the Government of Colombia, the FARC-EP and the UN Mission in Colombia—concluded that the FARC-EP violated the 13 October protocol, which at the time governed the Bilateral Ceasefire and Cessation of Hostilities by "performing acts of violence or any threat that endangers the life and personal integrity of the civilian population."

The tripartite Mechanism issued recommendations to the FARC-EP to avoid recurrence of new incidents. The Mechanism will continue its work in the regions to ensure the preservation of the Bilateral Ceasefire and Cessation of Hostilities and, within this framework, guarantee of the rights of the civilian population.
