“The peace agreement expectations are fulfilling”, Jean Arnault, Head of the UN Mission in Colombia

La Elvira, Cauca. June 13, 2017. The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN, Jean Arnault and Pablo Catatumbo, Member of the Secretariat of the FARC-EP, spearheaded the act of laying down of individual weapons in the zone for normalization, La Elvira - Cauca. Colombians and the world witnessed the moment when an observer from the UN Mission in Colombia showed the unloaded weapons registered with the corresponding bar code before to be deposit in UN containers.

During the ceremony, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Jean Arnault, referred to the progress of the peace process between the Government of Colombia and the FARC -EP, indicating that it is characterized by the determination and commitment of the parties, and assured that the Colombian process counts among the most successful of those verified internationally by UN.

"There have been many events, so many adventures in recent months that it is hard to believe that there has not yet been a year of signing the agreement. The implementation has not been exempt from episodes of discouragement, moments of scepticism and surely there will be other difficult times", affirmed the head of the UN Mission in Colombia.

Regarding the laying down of weapons, indicated that with the 30% of the weapons already stored, the process is in its final stage, which includes the arrival of 2,800 militiamen and the acceleration of the extraction of the coves.

On June 20, the process of laying down of individual weapons should end with the remaining 40% deposit in the UN containers.
