The Head of the United Nations Mission in Colombia heard different opinions about Peace process in Antioquia

Medellin, 18 June 2017. — The Representative of the Secretary General and head of the United Nations Mission in Colombia, Jean Arnault, visited Medellin in order to hear different opinions about the Peace Agreement and the laying down of weapons process.

During the two-day visit, Arnault was able to hear the expectations and proposals of different sectors about the post conflict and reincorporation of the FARC-EP members, as soon as the phase of laying down of weapons ends.

In this regard, he met with delegates of the Government of Antioquia, the Mayor of Medellin, businesspersons, representatives of different political parties and Armed Forces members. 

Additionally, Arnault heard proposals from different sectors to approach post-conflict. In particular, those from the Governor of Antioquia, Luis Pérez Gutiérrez, who expressed interest in strengthening social reintegration processes for ex-combatants.

On the other hand, Jean Arnault met with businesspersons and trade leaders, whom emphasized the importance of the private sector in advancing peacebuilding in Colombia.

Jean Arnault listened to representatives of political parties, including the Democratic Center and Patriotic March, about topics such as the implementation of agreements, security guarantees to social leaders and human rights situation.

Finally, the head of the United Nations Mission in Colombia held a meeting with the Monitoring and Verification Mechanism in Antioquia. According to Arnault, the tripartite mechanism model in which, Government, the FARC-EP and the United Nations work hand in hand is a unique experience in the world.
