Bogota, 8 June 2017. Yesterday, the timeline for the laying down of arms process, agreed between the National Government and the FARC-EP on 29 May, was complied with in the 19 Transitional Local Zones for Normalization (TLZN) and 7 Transitional Local Points for Normalization.

In accordance with this agreement, the UN Mission in Colombia has now a total of 2,300 weapons stored in its containers which represent just over 30% of the weapons currently registered and identified by the UN Mission in the FARC-EP camps.

Yesterday, officials of the UN Mission in Colombia and the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace travelled to the camps to deliver certificates and accreditations that allow members of the guerrilla to formally initiate reintegration into civilian life after the laying down of arms. The process of delivery of certificates and accreditations will continue in coming days. 

The Mission expresses its strong support for the laying down of arms process and for the measures taken by the Government in accordance with the Timeline. Both factors constitute a major event that attests to the willingness of the parties to respond to the hope created in Colombia and the international community by the signing of the Peace Agreement in November last year.
