Elbio Roselli, Uruguayan Ambassador and President of the UN Security Council for the month of May and the visit´s co-leader, in cooperation with the United Kingdom ambassador, highlighted that the visit  has attracted great interest from within the Council.

"The Council believes that this is a timely moment to express its support and to make contact with all parties in the process, to see how the United Nations is helping and how it can continue to do so," said Ambassador Roselli.

The Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Mission in Colombia, Jean Arnault, said that this visit is an opportunity for the Security Council to examine its work and to learn  first-hand "the progress and difficulties of the implementation process, not only in relation to the ceasefire and the laying down of arms but also the more substantive part”.

"Colombia remains by far the most encouraging process on the Council's agenda and despite any imperfections in the implementation process, I believe the Council will give a very clear statement of its full support and that of the international community in general, and its desire to do everything possible to make this process succeed”, said Mr. Arnault.
